The recent hullabaloo concerning councilor Huechuraba highlights the problematic situation which exists in Lagos, Nigeria where public agencies are becoming more and more parasitic and corrupt. The irony is that former PDP (Peoples Power) officials and businessmen that once controlled the transport, water and electricity industries have now lost most of their political clout due to the coming of an alternative, disillusioned and disgusted public that have elected this councilor alcalde huechuraba. It is a reflection of the rust permeating throughout Lagos that there's presently a Councilor for Public Service (CPS) and nobody seems to have the ability to figure out how to fill it.
A cursory glance at the background of Councordor Huechuraba's term reveals the deficiencies that were aplenty. In 2021 he was forced to step down by order of the Supreme Court after a few of his assistants were arrested on charges of graft and corruption. Since then the wheels of corruption had turned completely around and now the tables have been turned completely around; this Councilor is now the most important target of corruption accusations. It is unfortunate that all those who have been responsible for his appointment would be now conveniently blaming the former Chair of the Council for appointing him.
What do we do to stop this rust of public service? First and foremost it's important that as individuals and communities we must all contribute in whatever way we can. Whether this implies being a foot soldier or supplying a helping hand, this can help shape your own future. Secondly we must recognize that whatever position we maintain in government we should be committed to serving the community and the welfare of those people. When we fail to maintain these values then we not only ruin any political party but our community as a whole.
The way forward therefore is to begin a campaign which will enlist the support of the entire community. I predict this,"Serving the People" and believe it will lead to a sea change. There'll be many that will combine and also for us to become successful in this effort it's necessary that we start with the folks in the bottom. We must reach out to the roads. If we neglect to do so then we are not going to stop corruption within our community.
The success of the campaign will not be limited to one ward. The word will spread and there will be follow up activities. This may enable us to eventually clean house and eliminate those who are corrupt concejal huechuraba. A public service in the grass root level is that which we will need to ensure in this city and indeed in our nation.
The past Councilor Huejuraba is an individual who has served his constituents with distinction. There's no doubt he has the capability to lead. It is with that ability and skill that we must proceed as a company and as taxpayers. That is the vision that we must pursue and I am confident that with his resignation the job that has to be done will go forward without delay. Please consider that in 2021.
