People who are interested in learning more about wine and who enjoy shopping/researching online may consider joining a mail order wine club. It seems the social world has taken everyone by storm, whether people elect to join social networks, clubs or organizations. Wine clubs are similar, offering discounted prices on select wines, delivering directly to members' doorsteps and providing suggestions for wine parings wine delivery. They also inform members about different grapes and how they are cultivated into specific wine blends.

Alcohol delivery laws vary by state, but many parts of the United States are now able to receive wine deliveries through online ordering. This makes registering with a mail order wine club fairly easy. Most memberships simply require such personal information as one's home address and phone number in addition to a valid credit card number. That card, in turn, gets charged before a new delivery is shipped. Most clubs operate on a monthly basis, although some will deliver wines every two weeks. In addition, membership fees can range from several hundred dollars per month to only ten dollars per month. This discrepancy is intended to cater to a range of people, from veteran wine connoisseurs to those simply looking for a flavorful glass.

Some people ask what the benefit is in having wine delivered to one's home when it is just as easy to enjoy it at a local restaurant or from a retail store. First and foremost, mail order wine clubs usually provide members with newsletters, sent by email, that describe the wines they sell. Included in these letters is information about the vineyards from where the wines are harvested, recipes for cooking with wine and tips for enjoying wine to its fullest potential. This is vastly different from ordering in a restaurant or selecting an attractive bottle from a grocery retailer.

Mail order wine clubs also tend to deliver two different bottles with each shipment: one red and one white. This allows wine drinkers to try both blends and decide for themselves which they prefer wineshop. Wine clubs offer discounts on reorders in many instances as well, thus saving people money. Such convenient shopping also means people can increase their wine knowledge without actively pursuing such an education.

People can often select from a wide variety of mail order wine clubs to suit their individual tastes. One, for example, may specialize in wines from France or the Napa wine region, while another may deliver only wines rated 90 or above by a professional rating service, such as Wine Enthusiast. The end result may be a very satisfying experience whereby people drink and learn at the same time.
